Walk For Recovery

JOIN US IN BRINGING HOPE TO POLK COUNTY - WALK FOR RECOVERY

Dear Citizens, Businesses, Churches & Organizations,

With the recent Attorney General’s statewide alert about flavored meth targeted at our elementary kids followed by the largest methamphetamine bust in Polk County history, our community is surely in need of your help. We raise awareness about the devastating consequences of using methamphetamine and provide support for those in recovery. The Meth Free Project is an outreach of Leland Family Ministries, a licensed Florida substance abuse service provider. We are also the leading self-funded organization on the State’s Methamphetamine Task Force and we recently received an Outstanding Service Award by the Florida Office of Drug Control. Our program success is evident as we are opening chapters in several states, most recently in Georgia and Tennessee.

September is National Recovery Month and the Meth Free Project is celebrating recovery with two exciting events on Saturday, September 6, 2008. We will kick-off the day with our Annual Recovery Celebration at IMC Park in Bartow. Our celebration will begin with a Recovery walk followed by live music, family activities, numerous food vendors, an all day silent auction, as well as a dessert auction and cake walks throughout the day.  Later that evening we will be hosting our second annual recovery concert featuring Country Music’s Jeff Bates, of One Second Chance fame, and Lakeland’s own Aly Cutter. The concert will start at 7:00 pm in the nearby Bartow Civic Center.

We invite you to become involved and participate. Register as an individual or with a team for our Recovery Walk and each person will receive a free 2008 National Recovery month t-shirt and the first 400 individuals or team members to raise $150.00 will also receive a free Jeff Bates concert ticket for later that evening.  Please see the enclosed registration form and return to us with your $25.00 registration fee per person to receive your pledge form so that you can begin raising money to support this worthy cause! Team Captain’s are responsible for registering team members.

The Meth Destroys: The High is a Lie campaign is a national awareness program to prevent initiation into and, for some, a way out of the devastating world of meth. The program consists of an assortment of meth prevention practices including groups of high school students that circulate the dangers of meth to their peers and younger youth. The Corrections and Community Corrections Prevention education and recovery programs are the only existing meth programs in Florida’s jails and prisons. In addition, we have several successful recovery groups that support addicts and their families as they rebuild lives destroyed by meth. We truly hope you will share in this exciting event with us! Help us warn our community about meth while others celebrate recovery by contributing to the Meth Free Project!
